TRIAD can design workshops to address the specific training needs of school systems, professional organizations, parents and the community.
This workshop is designed for teachers, classroom assistants, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other providers working in a school or childcare setting. During this workshop, TRIAD staff provide basic information about autism spectrum disorders that is geared toward educators and service providers. Participants learn about the features of autism, the characteristics and learning styles of children with autism, and evidence-based approaches for behavior management and teaching new skills within educational settings.
This workshop is geared specifically toward building-level school administrators (e.g., principals and assistant principals) for the purpose of providing information on best practices for students with autism spectrum disorders so that administrators may evaluate programs and provide teacher support. Topics include: characteristics of autism (including diagnostic, cognitive, sensory, and attentional features); functional assessment (including behavior and adaptive skills); instructional strategies (including ABA techniques such as discrete trial training, structured teaching, and incidental teaching); data collection; teaching functional communication; social skills development; best practice for students with autism; IEP development; adapting and administering state assessments; and working with parents.
This workshop is designed for families, school personnel, and therapists. Participants learn how to use teaching methods consistent with the principles of applied behavior analysis to create a comprehensive educational program for students with autism spectrum disorders. These methods include discrete trial training, structured teaching, incidental teaching, and positive behavior supports. TRIAD staff demonstrate how to integrate different teaching methods to create a program that meets the unique needs of each student.
This workshop is designed specifically for para-educators who work with students with autism and covers topics including: characteristics of autism, behavior management principles, instructional strategies, and integrating different methodologies. This training provides an opportunity for participants to: 1) practice techniques during hands-on activities, 2) create tasks and visual supports to bring back to their classrooms, and 3) problem-solve challenges they face with their particular student.
TRIAD staff are available to provide information to help students understand their classmates with autism. Workshops are designed to be fun and educational. Activities focus on encouraging acceptance and appreciation of individual differences, as well as teaching specific strategies for fostering interactions and friendships with students with autism.
TRIAD offers district-wide inservice training workshops for school personnel. The trainings are hands-on and classroom-based.
