Social Skills Summer Camp

TRIAD Summer Camp provides an integrated social skills program that is designed specifically for children and youth with autism spectrum disorders between the ages of 7 and 21 who have language and reading skills.

TRIAD is dedicated to providing a fun-filled camp environment in which all children can learn and have successful interactions with their peers. Children with typical development between the ages of 7 and 13 are invited to participate in camp as models of appropriate social and communication behaviors and as interactive partners for the campers with autism. Peer training is provided to promote an atmosphere of acceptance and support among all campers.

Elementary Program

For children aged 7-11 years.

The program for elementary campers focuses on developing social skills such as: greetings, compliments, emotions, appropriate play, and choosing conversation topics. Campers have the opportunity to practice these skills during large and small group activities, outdoor play, and crafts. Counselors use a combination of visual supports and behavioral strategies to help campers experience success during camp activities. .

Transition Program

For children aged 12-14 years.

Transition campers participate in a program that includes both social skill development and community based activities. In addition to focusing on a daily social skill, transition campers have the opportunity to practice their social skills during field trips to places like the Sommet Center, Adventure Science Center, and Centennial Park.

Adolescent/Young Adult Program

For adolescents aged 15-21 years.

This program provides adolescents with the opportunity to practice both job skills and social skills. Adolescent campers have a daily social skills lesson on topics such as dealing with peer pressure and teasing, having conversations, and inviting others to play a game. Adolescent campers also work on pre-vocational skills both at camp and in the community through field trips and supervised pre-vocational opportunities. In addition, campers in this group earn a small stipend each week for their work.
