Postsecondary Education Opportunities for Students with Intellectual Disabilities

The Vanderbilt Kennedy UCEDD is collaborating with the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee, The Arc of Tennessee, and the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities to develop postsecondary programs for students with intellectual disabilities in Tennessee. This year the group sponsored fall, winter and spring conferences. The Organizing Committee, made up of representatives of each of the sponsoring organizations, will continue to meet with the goal of initiating Tennessee postsecondary programs for students with intellectual disabilities.

The Tennessee Task Force for Postsecondary Education for Students With Intellectual Disabilities was formed in May 2007 to increase awareness about the need for postsecondary opportunities in Tennessee, to gather information about postsecondary programs in other states, and to develop a pilot program on a Tennessee college campus.
Vanderbilt Will Offer First Postsecondary Education Opportunity in Tennessee for Students With Intellectual Disabilities
The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities has received a 3-year grant from the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities to develop and coordinate a Postsecondary Education Program for students with intellectual disabilities at Vanderbilt University. The program will be the first of its kind in the state of Tennessee.
