Disability Mentoring Day

The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (VKC) celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October by participating in a national job-shadow and career exploration program.

Disability Mentoring Day includes day-long activities designed to link students and jobseekers with disabilities to employers interested in fostering more diverse work cultures and/or hiring people with disabilities.

Participants include adults with disabilities and Vanderbilt staff members from a variety of disciplines and departments. The morning includes an orientation, HIPPA and safety training, and a 3-hour job-shadowing session. After lunch, participants connect with Vanderbilt Human Resources to learn more about the job hiring process and how to ask for accommodations. Mock interviews and resume and interview feedback are conducted by staff in Vanderbilt Human Resources.
