Project SUPPORT and INCLUDE
Building a Comprehensive, Integrated,Three-Tiered (CI3T) Model of Prevention

Project SUPPORT and INCLUDE (PSI) offers staff development and technical assistance to school-based teams in seventeen Tennessee counties. This professional training series facilitates the development of Comprehensive, Integrated, Three-Tiered (CI3T) Model of Prevention (including Positive Behavior Support) designed to address the social, academic, and behavior needs of all students. Using data-driven methodology, PSI seeks to build school’s capacities to prevent the development of learning and behavior problems and respond more effectively and efficiently to students with existing problems in inclusive settings.

Positive Behavior Support

Positive Behavior Support enables teachers and administrators to meet the rising challenges of today’s classroom with three-tiered models of prevention at the school-wide, small group, and individual level. Each level of prevention increases in intensity or magnitude, with a goal of providing more focused academic and behavioral interventions for students in need of targeted support as determined by school-wide data.

Project SUPPORT and INCLUDE assists in the design, implementation, and evaluation of Comprehensive, Integrated, Three-Tiered (CI3T) Model of Prevention with a focus on Positive Behavior Support to support inclusive environments and seeks to close the achievement gap between students who do and do not receive special education services. More information on the goals of this project can be found in the Project SUPPORT and INCLUDE Goals document.

Professional Development

School-based teams in Middle Tennessee are invited to attend three successive training workshops conducted by Kathleen Lane, Ph.D., Erik Carter, Ph. D., and Wendy Oakes, Ph. D., who have participated in various research, teaching, and professional development activities for more than 15 years each.

Each workshop focuses on a different level of prevention and is designed to support teams based on individual school needs. As described below and on the “who should attend” page, each model varies in content, team commitment, and post-training Vanderbilt support. For more information on the objectives of each these sessions, please click the links below each training or contact Project Director Wendy Oakes or Project Coordinator Abbie Jenkins.

Interested schools should select teams of five including an administrator, special educator and general education teacher to attend the sessions and serve as coordinators following the training. Space per session is limited and district approval required for participation. Once district approval is obtained, schools will be asked to collect and submit information prior to attending the full model training.

Project SUPPORT & INCLUDE: Building Comprehensive Three-Tiered Models of Prevention

In this six session training series, we offer a team-based process for training and developing a comprehensive school-wide prevention model addressing academics (response to intervention, RTI), behavior (Positive Behavior Supports), and social skill components. Over three days and three evenings, school teams will develop a comprehensive plan including primary, secondary, and tertiary supports and will learn how to teach, reinforce, and monitor this plan within their school community. Prior to the training, our project staff will plan to meet with your full faculty to request consent and gather information for your team's use during the training series. Please plan to have the team attending training meet with us separately immediately before or after this full faculty meeting
