The Department of Pediatrics is associated with some of the finest institutions in the country for the diagnosis and treatment of children. The department is housed within the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, enabling a true synergy between the teaching faculty, house staff and the patients they treat. - Premature births remain a medical mystery
Doctors have no way of knowing which pregnancies will be preterm, and in about half of all cases, they don’t know why a mother delivers early. However, science is beginning to divulge some clues, such as social stress, bacterial infection and hereditary influences, which might be tied to early births. The National Week of the Young Child focuses public attention on the rights and needs of young children.
