Child Language & Literacy Lab

    Looking for:

    Preschool and school-age children

    Compensation:

How hard can it be to listen?

    Looking for:

    6-to-12 year olds and their parents

    School age 6-12 year-olds in these 4 groups:

    • bilateral hearing loss (confirmed or suspected)
    • hearing loss in only one ear (confirmed or suspected)
    • language impairment (confirmed or suspected)
    • typical language and hearing development

    Compensation:

    Up to $300 for completion and results of hearing, language and academic tests

KidTalk Down Syndrome Social Communication Intervention Project

    Looking for:

    30 to 54 month old children with Down syndrome who:

    • have between 2 and 50 productive words or signs
    • use English as the home language
    • live within 30 miles of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center
    • do not have significant hearing/vision impairments

    Compensation:

    We offer language intervention & assessments at no cost to the family.

    Looking for:

    Looking for:

    4½ to 8½ year old children with autism spectrum disorder who have made limited progress in spontaneous expressive language after at least 1 year of intervention.

    Compensation:

    Assessments of language and cognitive skills and evidence-based communication intervention at the child’s school at no cost to you.

Language Delay and Musical Skills: Is this a pathway for improvement?

    Looking for:

    6-year-old children with language delay (SLI)

    Compensation:

    $40 for completing the 1st visit, and $25 for each follow-up visit Results of standardized testing will be provided at no cost.

    Looking for:

    10 to 14 year old children

    with and without reading disabilities

    Compensation:

    up to $150 (check mailed to your home after the study is completed - $75 for academic tests, $75 for MRI).
