Description

Vanderbilt Center for Human Genetics Research (CHGR) researchers are determined to find the causes of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Although research has identified several AD inherited factors (genes), evidence indicates the existence of additional AD genes. With the help of families affected by AD, the Vanderbilt CHGR continues the search for these additional AD genes.

What Does Participation Involve?

Study participants must review and sign the Consent for Research.

Families then contribute as follows:

  • A family and medical history
  • An evaluation of memory and thinking
  • A blood sample from all individuals agreeing to participate

Participant Criteria

Three types of families:

  • Families with at least two individuals who have AD usually brothers or sisters
  • Families with one person with AD and a brother, sister or spouse with no AD
  • Families with Adults over 60 with no family history of AD
