Description

Some kids have lots of aches and pains and are sensitive to any pain. Other kids have a high tolerance for pain. We want to understand these differences and find out how some are more sensitive than others by asking kids and their parents to come to a research laboratory at Vanderbilt University.

We'll ask parents and kids to fill out questions about pain-related problems and their health. Then we'll ask kids to rate how heat feels to them during a couple different activities like:

  • Holding their hands in a warm water bath
  • Feeling heat on their forearm from a small, square disk called a thermode.

The study visit should take about two hours, and your family will receive compensation for your time and effort*.

We will also ask parents and kids to fill out questions online four more times during the year after your visit. These questions will take about 20 minutes and families will receive compensation for completing all of them.

Please call or e-mail us if you are interested to learn more about the study.
