Sleep Education Classes For Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Description

This research project, part of the Autism Treatment Network (ATN) Repository, provides parents with tools to help their 2-to-10 year-old child fall asleep. Families will be randomly assigned in this study.

Tools may include:

  • Sleep education pamphlet
  • 1 hour of individualized education with a nurse
  • 4 hours in small-group classes led by a nurse

We will ask you to:

  1. Have your child wear a watch that measures activity and sleep
  2. Attend a class to learn about this watch
  3. Keep a diary of wake and sleep times for 7 days at a time
  4. Fill out sleep survey forms before and after education
  5. Come for classes at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital

Participant Criteria

  • Children ages 2-10 years
  • who are on the autism spectrum
  • have difficulty falling asleep.

Compensation

Families will be compensated for their time
