Deborah Hatton’s recent research has focused on Fragile X syndrome, comorbid Fragile X and autism, and visual impairment/blindness. In addition to the phenotypic characteristics of children with these disabilities, Hatton’s work also examines the neural underpinnings of the disorders, and intervention research that can help families, educators, and professionals promote optimal development and learning in children with disabilities. Before coming to Vanderbilt, Hatton was Director of the Research Registry Core at the University of North Carolina Neurodevelopmental Disorders Research Center, where she strove for the efficient recruitment of research participants and effective management of individuals’ participation in multiple research projects, reflecting her commitment to providing family-centered support.
