A neuropsychologist and clinician, Newsom does clinical diagnostic evaluations in the Division of Developmental Medicine, Pediatrics, for children of various ages who have or are suspected of having an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). She also is key liaison for clinical programs to help facilitate an interactive and integrated approach to autism research and outreach at Vanderbilt and to design training and consultation programs to meet national, regional, and local community needs. As TRIAD Director of Psychology Education, she works with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows gaining expertise in ASD diagnosis and intervention.
