Bichell conducts research on Angelman syndrome, a genetic disorder that causes developmental delay and neurological problems, including seizures, speech impairment, sleep disorders, and movement and balance disorders. Bichell directs the Alphabet Therapy Project of Vanderbilt University, which has trained therapists in five states to teach school-aged children with Angelman syndrome the alphabet, numbers, colors, and shapes.
