Nashville (Tenn.)—Members of the Tennessee National Service Inclusion Advisory Team attended the 2008 National Conference on Disability Inclusion and National Service in Washington, D.C., in October. The group was selected as part of a preconference event to benchmark best practices of effective inclusion teams, and was honored with the "Excellence in Partnering" Award.

“This was a huge surprise and honor,” said Access AmeriCorps Director for Volunteer Tennessee, Del Ray Zimmerman. “Our Advisory Team has only been working together for a little over a year. We are the baby of the family. However, we have made huge strides together within the year, and this award celebrates the true spirit of partnering that our team embodies.”

The Tennessee National Service Inclusion Advisory Team has been actively working to guide Volunteer Tennessee as it promotes inclusion of individuals with disabilities in community volunteer activities across Tennessee. The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center is an active partner in this endeavor.
