Courtney Evans Taylor of Nashville received the Integrity values award from The Arc Tennessee staff during the Eleventh Annual Tennessee Disability MegaConference Awards Banquet held May 31 at the Nashville Airport Marriott.
According the The Arc, Courtney embodies the word integrity and is a role model for others. In her position as Associate Director of Communications and Dissemination at Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, she suggested that their Kindred Stories publication be dedicated to stories of people who are on the waiting list for services through the Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. She helped coordinate interviews and The Arc Tennessee has used the book heavily in its advocacy efforts. When she heard about the plans to have a shoe display representing people on the waiting list at a legislative reception, she volunteered to organize a drive at Vanderbilt and collected 150 pairs of shoes! She always reaches out to others in the spirit of partnership and collaboration. Her willingness and commitment to tackle critical issues through involvement of Vanderbilt projects has increased awareness and broadened the audience of who hears about the issues.
The Arc Tennessee is a non-profit membership organization composed of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families and professionals in the field. For over 60 years, The Arc’s statewide advocacy and education efforts have led to increased options in school, employment, services and inclusion in the community.
The yearly Tennessee Disability MegaConference is possible through partnerships and collaborations of many disability organizations and state agencies.
