Students from Next Steps at Vanderbilt and trainees from the VKC LEND Leadership Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities and UCEDD University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Training programs joined several hundred others for Disability Day on the Hill and Vanderbilt Day on the Hill on January 30th at Nashville’s Legislative Plaza.

The group was treated to a brief tour and presentation in the Tennessee House of Representatives Chambers by Tennessee Rep. Brenda Gilmore. The group also attended several committee meetings and visited with area senators and representatives. While there, the Next Steps students met with students from the new postsecondary program at the University of Memphis, TIGER LIFE. For the LEND and UCEDD trainees, today’s visit was part of their overall program to train future leaders in disabilities research, training, and service.

Disability Day on the Hill takes place each year and is an opportunity to meet with state legislators at the Capitol and talk about issues important to individuals with disabilities and their families.
