Description

This conference will define multicultural awareness and focus on the values, principles, attitudes, and policies impacting the delivery of disability services to culturally diverse individuals and their families. Content will highlight the cultural perspectives of refugee, immigrant, rural and African-American populations.

8 a.m. Registration and breakfast

8:30 a.m. Welcome and Introductions

8:45 a.m. Presentation: Disability Services and Vanderbilt Kennedy Multicultural Program

9:00 a.m. Keynote Presentation: Cultural and Linguistic Competence, Tawara Goode, M.A., Director, National Center for Cultural Competence; Associate Director, Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development

10:45 a.m. Panel Presentation: Cultural Perspectives of Rural, Underserved, and African American Populations

12:00 p.m. Lunch

1:00 p.m. Panel Presentation: How Cultural Values Impact Care of Children and Adults with Disabilities

2:15 p.m. Wrap-up

Fees: $40. Fees include lunch and workshop materials.

FROM NORTH OF NASHVILLE ON I-65 OR I-24: Take I-65 to I-40 West to I-440 East. Take Exit 3 ( 21st Ave./Hillsboro Pike). When the off-ramp splits, follow the signs to Hillsboro Pike. Once on Hillsboro Pike, turn left at the third stoplight, onto Woodmont Blvd. Then at the first stoplight on Woodmont Blvd., turn right onto Belmont Blvd. Go approximately three blocks and the Ezell Building will be on the left.

FROM SOUTH OF NASHVILLE ON I-65 OR I-24: Take I-440 West. Take Exit 3 (21st Ave./Hillsboro Pike). When the off-ramp splits, follow the signs to Hillsboro Pike. Once on Hillsboro Pike, turn left at the third stoplight, onto Woodmont Blvd. Then at the first stoplight on Woodmont Blvd., turn right onto Belmont Blvd. Go approximately three blocks and the Ezell Building will be on the left.
