The Department of Education, Division of Special Education, in collaboration with the Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, are pleased to offer again the TRIAD Summer Institute. This year, the Institute will focus on Integrating Different Methodologies. Each of the 4-day Summer Institutes is open to two, four-person teams from each grand region of Tennessee. Each team will concentrate on developing a program for a particular student with autism in their school, and will receive a follow-up site visit later in the year. The team needs to bring information about the student's IEP, behavior plan, cognitive functioning, etc. Teams can consist of teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, SLPs, psychologists, etc.; or, any school personnel who provide direct service to the same child with autism.
This year, the TRIAD Summer Institute will be offered twice during the summer. The first session is July 19, 20, Sept. 13, 14 and the second session is July 21, 22, Sept. 15, 16. Note the ‘split session’ dates. The team will attend two days in July, and return for the last two days of training in September. Team members must attend all 4 days, and stay with the team with which they started.
Schools or supervisors interested in applying should complete the application and submit it ASAP. This is a competitive application process. Return of the application does not mean automatic acceptance. Please fill out the application completely and carefully. The deadline for receipt of the application is June 21, 2011, and accepted teams will be notified soon after that date.
