TRIAD Early Childhood Provider Workshop (Middle Tennessee)

Tuesday, January 18,-Wednesday, January 19, 2011

The Department of Education, Division of Special Education, in collaboration with the Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, are pleased to announce a new two-day workshop designed specifically for early childhood educators, including teachers and other professionals who are responsible for evaluating, setting goals, and providing intervention to children ages 3-5 with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) enrolled in state-supported early childhood programs. This no-cost workshop will combine lecture, small group discussion, video footage of strategies, and the development of classroom materials to accomplish the following outcomes for educators of pre-K children:

  • To understand the core deficits observed in young children with ASD
  • To set measureable and meaningful goals that address the core deficits seen in young children with ASD
  • To learn evidence-based intervention strategies to meet goals in deficit areas
  • To learn effective ways to collaborate with parents of young children with ASD

This two-day training will take place in each grand region of the state and will be open to forty (40) early childhood (ages 3-5 not in Kindergarten) professionals in each location. Admission will be by application only.
