Acoustic Startle Chamber.

Why Use Acoustic Startle?

The acoustic startle reflex is a very basic response to strong exteroreceptive stimuli. It is widely used to assess sensorimotor reactivity and yields important information about attentional and information neural processes. A weak sound preceding the loud acoustic stimulus inhibits the startle reflex; this is called pre-pulse inhibition (PPI). PPI is impaired in schizophenic patients and is considered a test with good predictive, face and construct validity for schizophrenia.
Location: Preston Research Bldg. 861

Charges: $16 per hour ($8 for CMN and KC members)

Note: To use the startle chambers you must have an active Account with the Murine Neurobehavior Lab and reserve time using our on-line Scheduling calendar. Contact John Allison to arrange training.
