You can share your story by writing it yourself or by being interviewed and having someone else write it for you.
Write your own story

want your story! Each story in this collection is as unique as each individual, so write and let your voice be heard. Your story will
be reviewed by editors and categorized with topics before it is published to the website.

- Over the phone. Contact The Arc Tennessee at: (800) 835-7077. Mention that you would like to have someone record your story over
the phone. Be sure to tell them it is for “Kindred Stories,” to make sure you get the proper assistance.
Have someone else write your story
Each year, we work with college students enrolled in Special Education and Journalism classes at Vanderbilt and Belmont Universities. The students
interview self-advocates and their families, and then write up their stories as part of a course assignment. The stories are shared on this
Website and some are included in a print booklet that we share with legislators. The interviews are a great way to share your stories, to advocate
for people with disabilities, and to give students an opportunity to learn more about the challenges and successes that people with disabilities
and families have in Tennessee.
To participate in a Kindred Stories interview:
Send an email to Courtney Taylor. Please put: “Kindred Stories Interview Interest” in the subject line. Or call (615) 322-5658, toll-free (866) 936-8852.
Don't forget to share your story with others!
It's never been easier to share your stories with a large audience. Sharing helps create awareness that can lead to positive changes in our Tennessee communities.
