The Community Advisory Council advises the leadership of the University Center for Excellence. The Council is a full partner in planning, implementing, and evaluating activities. The Council meets at least quarterly. One or more members attend the annual meeting of the Association of University Centers on Developmental Disabilities and take part in the national Council on Community Advocacy, which is made up of individuals with disabilties and family members from each University Center in the national network.

The CAC president, Doria Panvini, is a parent of an adult son with intellectual disabilities and an effective advocate in Tennessee. The majority of the members are self-advocates or family members.
