Teaching Preschoolers with Autism: Creating and Using Visual Supports

This workshop is designed for teachers, classroom assistants, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other providers who work with young children with autism in preschool, daycare, or home settings.

TRIAD staff will describe and illustrate the many ways that visual supports can be used for teaching with young children with autism spectrum disorders. Visual supports can help young children with autism handle transitions, learn new skills, organize their time, understand and anticipate events, understand behavioral expectations, and perform activities independently. Visual supports are easy to make and can be beneficial for all children in preschool settings, not just those with autism. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own visual supports to use with children with whom they work.
