Family Outreach Center

Overview

Administrative Services Core conducts and manages the Center's major financial, administrative, and clerical activities, and provides financial and administrative support for all Cores and individual research projects. With University support, grants development services are provided, as well as services related to development (e.g., foundations, individual donors), communication, education, and governance functions.

Facility and Operations

Coordination for physical maintenance, housekeeping, security; reserving MRL conference rooms, research parking spaces, and car for research transportation. Communications

Research Communication Services
Maintains dissemination database and Center Web site, manages electronic communication, including Center wide "Monday Morning Message" and specialized distribution lists; develops and disseminates print materials describing Center and research projects; writes news releases and manages media releases. Research Lectures, Conferences, and Seminars
Plans, schedules, coordinates, and manages the Center's research events: Lectures, on Human Development and Developmental Disabilities (researchers may contact us to schedule meetings with guest lecturers), Developmental Disabilities Grand Rounds, Neuroscience Graduate Seminars, research conferences and meetings. Services: event planning; handling correspondence; arranging transportation, lodging, and meals; planning agenda and arranging meeting facilities; producing and disseminating preliminary and final conference programs; handling publicity; organizing registration; arranging audiovisual support; and processing reimbursement of lecturers or conference participants. Research Ethics Education

Consultation during proposal writing, prior to investigators submitting research protocols to Vanderbilt's Institutional Review Board; case consultation regarding specific concerns that arise while research is in progress; and consultation on policy formation. Continuing education events, in collaboration with the Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society, research training programs, and Institutional review Board.

Technology Services

Programming
Consultation on the use of computer software and applications for investigators who use observation methods to collect data; development of computer programs to support an individual investigator's research project(s); access to, adaptation of, and training with observational research software programs.

General Technical Support
Installing computers and software; troubleshooting software and network-related problems; training to facilitate optimal applications of software; consulting on hardware and software purchases; translating files in different formats; scanning in files from text using Optical Character Recognition; repairing computer hardware; secure management of file servers; support of secure networked systems in which data for individual projects are secured for privacy and backed up.

Graphic Services

Designs and produces illustrations, graphs, posters, newsletters, brochures, flyers; scanning and layout; color printing; logo and web design, and video and multimedia services.

Graphics Request Procedures
All graphics requests are to be directed to Melanie May, Art Director. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, Room 201, MRL Building. It's best if you can schedule an appointment in advance so that there is time to discuss all aspects of your service request. To schedule an appointment, call 322-8579 or email Kylie Beck. A due date will be set at the start of the job when you meet with her. A proof date will be communicated to you by the artist assigned to your job (view service fees) You will be sent and invoice and will need to assign center and account numbers and return it to Graphic Services.

Photographic and Video Services

Original photography, print or slide duplication; consultation, installation, training on photographic or video imaging equipment; videotape production; digital video (DV), S-VHS, and VHS editing; character generation; audio enhancement; video processing; S-HS and audiotape duplication; audiovisual support for research events.  Fees for services: $50/hr. for video editing and production; you will be sent an invoice and will need to assign center and account numbers and return it. Jobs can be left and picked up via Tony Maupin's in-box, 422 MRL; leave detailed instructions, including desired delivery date, investigators' names and contact name (if different) and phone number.
