For over 15 years, the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center has provided Research Associate support annually for two or three postdoctoral fellows. The purpose of these awards is to assist young investigators, usually within one to a few years of completing their Ph.D.s, to initiate independent research careers. In 2002-03, the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center conducted a national search to recruit research fellows to join a laboratory whose efforts are focused on the advancement of understanding disorders that affect human development and to conduct empirical research on mental retardation, developmental disabilities, and related basic science mechanisms. The search was focused in the areas are neuroscience, behavior, genetics, emotion, education. Beginning with the 2003-04 academic year, the three Research Associate positions have been filled.
